Freedom from hunger
is a right, not a privilege.
The Haight Ashbury Food Program was founded in 1983 as a neighborhood response to hunger. We exist to provide food and referral services to those in need while fostering a sense of belonging and self worth for all involved.
We operate a food pantry every Saturday.

Vetter Family Food Pantry
Food distribution is on Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
at 1525 Waller St., SF, CA 94117 (at Belvedere)
Pantry customers should bring their Pantry ID cards. Please do not arrive before 11:00 am (so we can set up), and do not arrive later than 1:15 pm (as our food supply runs low).
Eligibility: If you are hungry, we are here to help. We will either serve you as a pantry customer, or help you find the pantry partner closest to you. If you are not sure if you qualify, come and speak to us.
We do not turn people away for lack of ID or permanent physical address.

Donate
Donate Food
One person’s boring, canned lima beans can be another person’s gourmet meal! If you find yourself with canned or non-perishable food you do not need or want, we’ll take it! Learn more about how you can donate food.
Donate Goods or Services
We do not have a lot of space for donated goods, but we do sometimes need non-food items, and can distribute some items to those most in need immediately. Learn more about how you can donate goods and services.
Support Our Work
The Haight Ashbury Food Program relies on generous donations from our neighbors and supporters. Every tax-deductible donation goes directly to the operation of our program to feed people in need.

Our Community & Partners
Feeding large numbers of people truly takes a village. The Haight Ashbury Food Program is proud to be part of a vibrant community of local support.
Our network of partners consists of local merchants and service providers, local family, corporate, and issue-focused foundations and funders, and local nonprofit and social service organizations.
Our generous neighbors provide volunteer service, and cash and in-kind donations, all while fostering the feelings of connection and goodwill with which we provide our services.
Celebrating 40 years in 2023
We’re turning 40!! Not only have we been around for a while, we have provided over one million (1,000,000) meals! The Haight Ashbury Food program has been and will continue to be a reliable source for food, connections to services, and a place where the community comes together.
Do you have a story to share about how HAFP has been a part of your life, made a difference in the community, or would you like to get involved? We would love to hear from you. Please get in touch.
